My House My Home
by dl Rizzo
As an Emotionally-Creative Gifted adult, and like most other EC Gifted individuals, feeling "different" and misunderstood are common experiences. I wrote this poem about a decade ago to reflect my own experience growing up as a "gifted" child and adolescent, although at the time I was not at all aware of my own psychological, emotional and spiritual differences that set me apart from my peers.

EC Gifted individuals often have a very complex interior life. Thinking existentially, reflecting upon life and our place in it, musing about our relationship to others, deliberating about "God" or some Cause as to why we and the universe exist (and for what cause or end) and "why" there is so much pain and hurt in the world are all vital matters we can’t seem to find an escape from. And these contemplations begin early in life.
The House by the Side of the Road
by Sam Walter Foss (1858-1911)
Below is a poem by Sam Walter Foss called The House by the Side of the Road which I feel speaks to who I am and my personal feelings and perspectives towards helping people through a life of service.

There are hermit souls that live withdrawn
In the peace of their self-content;
There are souls, like stars, that dwell apart,
In a fellowless firmament;
There are pioneer souls that blaze their paths
Where highways never ran;-
But let me live by the side of the road
And be a friend to man.
